Catch-Up #297421

While I had intended for me to write up entries about once or twice a week, I always seem to get distracted and fall behind on that. Lately I've been focused on mining Khroma Ores to make a full stack of Imperial Wootz Ingots so I would be able to obtain an Usukane Haramaki when the time comes for it, leaving me not much time or anything else. For time being, I guess I'll list my current projects and where I am on there:
Campaign research: Constantly looking at computer code and tweaking formulas on my campaign parser kinda gave me a headache so it is on hiatus for now. Right now, the biggest hurdle is dissecting the contribution from damaging enemies and related contributions (swings, crits, etc). I know the wikis has them listed but I would like to find them out for myself independently, as they seemed to be estimates (check my original post about the calculations from healing). If anyone knows how to deal 0 damage to campaign mobs while not missing them, I would really love to learn how, as it is not as simple as taking a 1 damage dagger (Ceremonial Dagger) and start swinging at it. It would definitely help speed things up if there was a way to test 0 damage on campaign.
Over time, I am also slowly building a collection of what category each ability or magic falls under (like buffs, debuffs, etc). If anybody is interested in contributing to this, please let me know.
Parry build: Has been on hold for a while. Once in a while I'll head back and play with Korrigans, but as anyone who has actually tried to skill up parrying will tell you, it is annoying and takes a long time. Currently at 228 out of 269 parrying skill.
Damage reduction build: I've had chances to play with this in a rough sense, though I'm missing a few pieces that may make a difference. I am missing: Darksteel Mittens+1, Gavial Cuisses+1, Gavial Greaves+1, leaving me short ~9% damage reduction(which is not the actual exact number). If I could find crafters that would help me HQ these pieces on Titan without charging an arm and a leg, I could finally wrap this up.
Shuriken build: Has not been promising at all. Despite a 269 skill, and adding significant +throwing skill +ranged accuracy, Sange doesn't seem to be reliable even on EM-Ts. If that can't be reliable, it means I'm missing too often which means I'm essentially throwing money away.... In the future though I may test out the effects from level caps (where dual wield is less effective), but for now, it is on the back burner indefinitely.
NIN/PLD: I know this has been "wrapped" up before but I think I might revisit this one day, along with other subjobs for NIN (/DNC, /DRK, /WAR, /RDM) and compare among them.

Well that's all the updates I have for now, maybe I'll have some actual goodies on my next post.

My FFXI Videos

[Rant] One of the many things that really annoys me is when people really overbuild their parties for missions and such. You do not need to have 6 75s just to beat Shadow Lord (which by the way was released around when the level cap was 55 or 60 I think). Nor do you always need a full party/alliance just for anything.[/Rant]

As such, I've been making videos of me soloing various things in hopes of maybe better educating people at what is needed at these fights. Some people may think I'm just doing this to show off but my intent is truly to show people what can be done without grabbing a full party or a bunch of 75s, with a secondary objective of challenging myself a bit. While not everyone is capable of doing these fights even if they're given the same exact condition, it just means they would need at most another boost (i.e. another player to help them out). As I upload more of these videos, I'll try to keep this post updated.

New day, new age..... and campaign!

Wow, it has been an eternity since I last posted in this blog. That isn't due to lack of content but rather me being a big procrastinator. Unfortunately, that made me forget more than half the stuff I wanted to post =/ So for today, I'll start with my campaign research.

Current theory on how points are calculated are found from a Japanese wiki: http://ff11wiki.rdy.jp/2026067319.html#z86c536a
I came across it from the BG wiki which basically copied from Reinheart's blog which translated the original Japanese wiki.

While it is nice, it is however only approximate and is not suitable for the campaign parser I am programming. As such, I am currently doing research on the exact calculations used to determine EXP / AN earned in campaign. This is all my original research, with foundations based on information from sources above:
  • There is a time-based EXP cap for which is the maximum EXP you can earn per given time. This EXP starts at 60 points per minute and goes up by 2 points per minute for every rank up. Currently Holyknight Emblem §§§§ is the maximum rank (at 82 points per minute) and it is not known if this trend will continue. Furthermore, this is based on minutes, rounded down to the nearest minute.
  • The total EXP you receive is rounded down to the nearest 5 multiple. This applies regardless of capped EXP or not.
  • AN gains are exactly half of your EXP gain, rounded down. However, the cap is the same as EXP cap, which means you can gain equal amount of AN as EXP (e.g. 1000 EXP / 1000 AN is possible).
  • Currently, EXP is calculated based on a large function comprised of several factors. The biggest 3 factors are: Damage dealt (to campaign monsters), Damage received (by campaign monsters), and damage cured (by you to yourself or others).
  • I have found the rate at which you receive exp from HP cured is exactly 25/256 (~9.766%) times the total HP cured.
  • HP cured has a maximum cap of 500 points ( or 5,000 HP recovered) regardless of time spent in
  • Current research seems to point at damage dealt and received calculations are either a little different than cured, or there may be a factor missing from what the Japanese wiki mentions.
  • Self buffs are worth 20 points per buff, which includes some Job Abilities. Things like Sambas, Sange, Hasso/Seigan, Third Eye, magic buffs, Spectral Jigs, Utsusemi, and Tonko all count as self buffs. However, there are others like Circles (Warding Circle, Holy Circle, etc) that do not count as buffs (I currently do not know if these count towards other player buffs).
  • Self buffs has a maximum cap of 150 points (or 7 and 1/2 self buffs) .
  • Debuffs are worth 15 points per debuff. Some Job Abilities also counts towards debuffs. This can include Steps, ninjutsu debuffs and magic debuffs.
  • Some actions are worthless in points. This includes Meditate and possibly Circles.
This is what I know for sure from my research, there are a lot of other things I need to figure out. I am not going to post the methods or data from this research here as it would fill up pages. However, if anybody is interested in them, you can ask me for it.
